"The fastest-spreading language in human history, English is spoken at a useful level by some 1.75 billion people worldwide—that’s one in every four of us."
With 7.3 billion people on the planet at the moment, English clearly dominates the business world. Time to realize the true professional lingua franca of almostall online commerce and multinational corporation communication. If English is not your first language, maybe you feel at a disadvantage.
THE BAD NEWS
Currently, English proficiency plays a large role in companies' analysis of their employees and potential employees. Things like hiring, promotion, and position placement come down to skill, experience, potential, etc...but one separating factor is your ability to communicate in an international context. Fewer and fewer companies do business locally, exclusively. Improving your English to a business level does not come quickly, easily or cheaply.
THE GOOD NEWS
Have you considered that you might not need to improve your English? That's right! Let's imagine you think something's wrong with your car. So you take it to a mechanic. What if he just dives in and starts to fix whatever he feels like? Obviously, this is not helpful, he needs to test it to see what needs to be corrected.
In the same way, there is a way to check your business English. By far, the best way I have found (in terms of price, accessibility, and worldwide recognition) has been developed by the University of Cambridge, called BULATS. The beauty of this test is that there is literally no way to fail! It is 100% online and only analyzes your language level in a professional context to give you a better understanding of what to work on.
With your newly found Business English level established by BULATS, you will then feel more confident in your personal credentials going forward for the promotion or new job. The world is moving at a fast pace, don't be left behind.
